  • Dr. Gray was educated at Exeter College, Oxford University, where he read Philosophy, Politics and Economics and received his B.A., M.A., and D. Phil degrees. Since 1976 he has been a Fellow of Jesus College, Oxford University. He has held numerous visiting appointments, including: Professor of Government, Harvard University; Visiting Distinguished Professor in Political Economy at the Murphy Institute, Tulane University; Stranahan Distinguished Research Fellow at the Social Philosophy and Policy Center, Bowling Green State University, Ohio; and Olmsted Visiting Distinguished Professor at Yale University. His books include: Mill on Liberty: a Defence (Routledge & K. Paul, 1983); Hayek on Liberty (B. Blackwell, 1984); Liberalism (University of Minnesota Press, 1986); Liberalisms: Essays in Political Philosophy (Routledge, 1989); Post-liberalism: Studies in Political Thought (Routledge, 1993); Beyond the New Right: Markets, Government and the Common Environment (Routledge, 1993); Isaiah Berlin (Princeton University Press, 1996) and Enlightenment's Wake: Politics and Culture at the Close of the Modern Age (Routledge, 1995).
