See Dermot Quinn's lecture on Christopher Dawson's Dynamics of World History on C-SPAN's Book TV this weekend!

Professor Dermot Quinn, who wrote the introduction to ISI Books' Dynamics of World History by Christopher Dawson, will be featured on C-SPAN's Book TV this weekend. Professor Quinn gave this lecture at the International Institute for Culture in Philadelphia, PA on April 11th.

The lecture will air on Sunday, May 11th at 4:30 am EST.

Description: From the International Institute for Culture in Philadelphia, Professor Dermot Quinn discusses the work of the late cultural historian and philosopher Christopher Dawson. Professor Quinn’s lecture is based on Dawson’s work, “Dynamics of World History.” First published in 1958, the book contains thirty-one essays selected from Dawson’s writings. According to Professor Quinn, unity was the defining principle of Dawson’s philosophy. Dawson believed that all human societies attempt to define themselves and their existence through “religious conceptions of reality.” In addition, Dawson believed that religion was pivotal in forming and sustaining a civilization and its loss a portent of social decay. Other themes contained in his work include the interdependence of history and sociology, the need to move beyond nationalist history toward a global history of cultural development and the destructive nature of cultural imperialism. Professor Quinn discusses Dawson’s life, religious conversion and philosophies. He answers questions from the audience following his presentation.
