Thornton makes his sophomore appearance on ABC talk show
For the second time in three months, Bruce Thornton, co-author of Bonfire of the Humanities, and author of Plagues of the Mind,
made a guest panel appearance on ABC's "Politically Incorrect" (October 5, 2001) with Bill Maher. Co-panelists this time were Bob Costas (NBC Sportscaster), Christopher Titus (comedian and start of FOX's "Titus"), and Mark Juergensmeyer (Director of Global and International Studies UC Santa Barbara, and author of Terrorism in the Mind of God).
In light of the events of September 11, the show focused almost entirely on how the terrorist attacks should be handled.
The majority of the panelists and the show's host agreed that there could be no negotiating with bin Laden and the Taliban, and that it was time to fight back and claim justice by force.
The only dissenter to this opinion was Dr. Juergensmeyer, who warned that this might make things worse.
Ironically, US forces began their air campaign against the Taliban 2 days later.
