Bonfire author visits "Politically Incorrect" once again
The third time was a charm for Bruce Thornton, co-author of Bonfire of the Humanities and author of Plagues of the Mind, who was once again a guest on ABC's "Politically Incorrect" (December 4, 2001) with Bill Maher. Co-panelists were Seth Green (actor, "Austin Powers"), Danis Tonavic (Bosnian writer and director of "No Man's Land"), and Holland Taylor (actor, Showtime's "The Day Regan was Shot"). This show's main topic concentrated on the capture of a young American fighter for the Taliban in Afghanistan, John Walker. Bill Maher asked his guests what should be done to this traitor. Thornton reminded the panel that technically, Walker is guilty of treason, which means "giving aid to the enemy." Seth Green fervently agreed with this, and surprisingly (as he was certainly the youngest member of the panel) stressed that no matter what the age or mistaken "idealism" of the offender, he should be held accountable for his actions.
